Product Owner, Payments

Stockholm, hybrid, real on-site presence. Contract.

Sweden is replacing the plumbing under its domestic payments during 2026. The Bankgiro clearing system and the Dataclearing are being switched off and replaced with an ISO 20022 platform built to the Nordic Payments Council rulebooks. At the same time RIX is moving onto the Eurosystem's T2 and T2S platforms, and instant payments are expected to work beyond Swish by early 2027.

A major Nordic bank is adding a Product Owner to the team that owns its payment products through that change.

What you would own

A backlog across domestic and cross-border payments while both change underneath you.Deciding what the bank builds first when the infrastructure timetable, the customer impact and the engineering capacity all disagree. Working with the people who will tell you no: risk, compliance, operations, and the market infrastructure bodies outside the bank.

The work runs in an established agile organisation, several teams and well over a hundred people, split across Stockholm and Malmo.

What you need to have done

Worked Swedish domestic payments from inside a bank, a clearing house or a Swedish bank programme. Bankgiro files, Autogiro, RIX participation, SEK clearing and settlement.

Carried cross-border payments through the move from SWIFT MT to MX, and understood what ISO 20022 does to a bank beyond the message format: what happens to the data, what breaks downstream, and what you chose not to fix.

Owned a backlog and made prioritisation calls that cost somebody something. Scrum, Kanban or SAFe as the surrounding method, but the method is not the point.

Payments regulation as something you have taken into a backlog and traded against commercial work, not as a directive you can name. PSD2, AML and KYC, and the Swedish rules for SEK.

Useful, not essential

Euro clearing through EURO1 and TARGET2, SEPA Credit Transfer and SEPA Instant. If you have run euro rails alongside SEK, say so early, because it matters more here than the title suggests.

FX handling inside payments rather than on a trading desk. Reconciliation between a domestic clearing position and a correspondent position. Payment initiation and reporting APIs, and enough technical literacy to hold your own in refinement.

Stockholm based, hybrid.
