We are looking for an R&D Section Manager Energy Transfer & Environment!
The R&D Section Manager Energy Transfer & Environment leads a group of about 20 highly skilled engineers and biologists working widely for the different business areas of Vattenfall in an exciting time for the energy sector. Emerging technologies, climate change and biodiversity paired with focus on safe, effective and flexible electricity generation dominates the work of the section. The section is run as a cost centre and you will report to the Director of R&D Laboratories.
The majority of the direct reports are based in Älvkarleby. Complementary competences are associated to the group through selected consultants. We have extensive cooperation outside Vattenfall, mainly with related institutes and universities in Sweden and abroad. The section leads laboratory development in several areas, runs the computer cluster of Vattenfall and contributes to coordinate health and safety work for the site Älvkarleby with its laboratories. An important task for you as a manager is to facilitate the work of your staff and their contacts and relations to other units of R&D, Vattenfall and relevant external competence hubs.
Main tasks and responsibilities
The R&D Section Manager Energy Transfer & Environment leads and develops the section, ensures alignment with business goals, fosters innovation and delivers high-quality outcomes. The role involves managing resources, driving competence development, ensuring compliance with health, safety, security, environmental and quality (HSSEQ) standards, and fostering strong internal and external collaborations to support the success of the section. Responsibilities include :
- Develop and implement R&D strategies and objectives that align with the goals and business needs of Vattenfall as an international utility.
- Fostering a collaborative and innovative work environment.
- Developing and coaching direct reports individually as well as a team.
- Allocation of resources, ensuring that projects are adequately staffed and funded.
- Monitoring the performance of the teams and taking corrective measures if needed.
- Systematically improving the working environment within the section while complying with HSSEQ requirements.
- Budget management of the section according business plan.
The position involves regular social interaction, such as frequent team building activities, client meetings and R&D-internal presentations. In terms of collaboration and communication, the R&D Section Manager Energy Transfer & Environment :
For knowledge management, the R&D Section Manager Energy Transfer & Environment stays updated on industry developments and regulatory requirements (for example HSSEQ) as well as identifies and integrates new technologies and methodologies as appropriate.
Qualifications
We think you are an experienced engineer or biologist with at least an MSc degree. In your field of expertise, you demonstrate confidence. A background in supporting business with processes, methods or tools is requested. You are interested in development and embrace challenging R&D demands and innovative opportunities. Former experience in personal management, leadership as well as managing change is a merit. We appreciate if you are well-established and appreciated in the business of electricity generation, especially wind, hydro or nuclear power.
