We are looking for

A project assistant at the Department of Global Political Studies.

Work duties

The primary work task involves assisting in preparing a large-scale program application for external funding in the broad area of democratic backsliding and spread and resurgence of authoritarianism. This includes undertaking literature searches and writing literature reviews corresponding to specific parameters, excerption of useful material and the writing of interim reports about preliminary findings. It also involves keeping track of research groups at other universities conducting research on related themes.

Qualifications

Specific requirements for this position :

  • Social Sciences Master or Humanities degree or equivalent
  • Proficiency in English is required
  • Able to work independently and observe deadlines.
  • Used to reading and writing academic texts

The following would be of benefit for the position :

  • Documented interest in issues of democracy and authoritarianism.
  • Working knowledge of additional languages, e.g. Russian, Ukrainian, Hungarian or Turkish
  • In addition to formal competence, University employees must possess the personal capacities necessary to perform the duties of the position well and to represent the University in the best possible way.

    Faculty, Department and Research environment

    Faculty

    At the Faculty of Culture and Society, research and education concerns many of the major issues of our time – for example those dealing with global politics, new media and sustainable urban development – from humanistic, social science, and design science perspectives.

    The faculty is a creative, evolving and cross-border academic environment characterised by a high degree of internationalisation and collaboration with others, both inside and outside the academy. We are located in the centre of Malmö, but our perspectives cover the whole world. We are organised into three departments : Urban Studies, Global Political Studies and the School of Arts and Communication.

    The Departement

    The Department of Global Political Studies offers several interdisciplinary programmes and conducts research focusing on global challenges in different contexts and at different levels. The department has two doctoral programmes : Global Politics (GP) and International Migration and Ethnic Relations (IMER) . Read more about the Department of Global Political Studies here .

    Research environment

    The research environment at the department is characterized by global perspectives and internationalization. The focus of its research is on global processes and their implications for power, security, justice and development. The department hosts the faculty research center RUCARR, Russia, Ukraine and the Caucasus Regional Research, where the position will be based. RUCARR's research deals with political, social, cultural, economic and other relations of significance within and between Russia, Ukraine and the Caucasus, as well as among neighboring states. Its researchers have extensive experience in conducting field research in the region, benefitting from solid knowledge of Russian, Ukrainian and Caucasian cultures and languages, as well as a broad network of local contacts.
